What We believe

About the Bible:

We reverently receive the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and believe them to be the inspired Word of God, the only inerrant, infallible rule of faith and practice! The Bible is God’s Word to all men. Human authors wrote it under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. (Ps. 12:6; 18:30; 19:7; Prov. 30:5–6; Jn. 17:17; 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20-21).

We believe that the Bible is sufficient for all matters of faith and practice – all that God intended man to know about Him and His relationship to His creation is penned in the Bible (2 Tim. 1:13; 3:14–17; 2 Pet. 1:3).

About God:

God does exist! He is ONE God, the Creator, and Sustainer of the universe. He eternally exists in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-extant, co-equal, and are one God. They are all co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and have the same attributes and perfections. (Gen. 1:1, 26, 27; 3:22; 11:7; Deut. 6:4; Psa. 90:2; Mat. 3:16-17; 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14; 1 Pet. 1:2).

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus is fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death and offer His indwelling life to all believers. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Isa. 7:14; 9:6; Mat. 1:22-23; John 1:1-3, 14; 10:30; Heb. 4:14,15; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; Rom. 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Tim. 6:14-15; Titus 2:13; Rev. 19-20).

We believe in the personal, imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ for the redeemed. At the end of the seven-year tribulation, He will return to earth with the saints in power and glory to reign for a thousand years. (Dan. 9; Zech. 14:4-11; 1 Thess. 1:10; 4:13-18; 5:9; Titus 2:13; Rev. 3:10; 19:11-16; 20:1-6).

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for a savior, Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for Christian living, helps the Christian understand spiritual truth, and guides the Christian in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily. (John 14:16-17; 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor. 2:11-14; 3:16; 2 Cor. 3:17; Gal. 5:25; Eph. 1:13; 5:18).

About Man:

Man is made in the image of God. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by a sinful nature inherited from Adam. In Adam, all humanity fell into sin with the result that all men are by nature sinners. Men are justly condemned to eternal judgment and can do nothing to merit salvation. (Gen. 1:27; 9:6; Psa. 8:3-6; Isa. 53:6a; Rom. 2:2-3,5; 3:23; 5:12; Eph. 2:1, 8-9).

About Salvation:

Salvation is a gift from God to man. God alone is the initiator and generator of salvation for man. Man does not seek God for salvation; God is seeking man. Before the foundation of the world, God chose salvation for men and then generates the faith to believe. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer for forgiveness can a man be saved from sin’s penalty. Thus, salvation is by grace through faith alone. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. The purpose of salvation is to bring sinners back to God’s original purpose for man (John 1:12; 14:6, Rom. 6:23; cf. 5:1; Gal. 2:20; 3:26; Eph. 2:8,9; Titus 3:5).

We believe that once one is saved, he or she is preserved and secured in that position. Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian (John 10:28-29; Rom. 8:31-39; 2 Tim. 1:12; Heb. 7:25; 10:10, 14; 1 Pet. 1:3-5).

The Gospel is the good news that sinners can be saved from their spiritual deadness and alienation from a Holy God. The means of that salvation is attributed to the substitutionary death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Rom. 5:10; 10:9-10; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; 2 Cor. 5:21; 1 Pet. 3:18).

About the Church:

The Church is composed of all believers. It is the body and bride of Christ formed by the baptism of the Holy Spirit and existing in two aspects – universal and local. The Universal Church is an elect company of believers baptized by the Holy Spirit into one body (1 Cor. 1:2; 2 Tim. 2:19). Its mission is to bear witness of its head, Jesus Christ, and to make disciples of Jesus Christ by preaching the Gospel among all nations. The Local Church is a group of believers voluntarily joined together in love (fellowship) in a particular place to worship God and to glorify Jesus Christ through an involved effort to disciple others (Rom. 16:1; 1 Cor. 1:2; 1 Thess. 1:1). The cross of Calvary and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the center of the Church’s message. (Eph. 1:22-23; 5:24-30; Mat. 28:19-20; 1 Cor. 12:4-13, 27).

We believe that the Bible sets forth two ordinances for the Church – The Lord’s Supper and water baptism. The Lord’s Supper is to be celebrated regularly in remembrance of Christ’s death on the cross and in expectation of His return. The bread symbolizes the body of Christ that was broken for our sins, whereas the cup symbolizes the blood of Jesus that was shed for us. Water baptism is an outward demonstration of a person’s belief in Christ and desire to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. It pictures the believer’s identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. Baptism also symbolizes the believer’s death to old life and resurrection to newness of life in Christ Jesus. Immersion is the ideal means set forth in Scripture. (Mat. 26:27-28; 28:19; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 22:19-20; Acts 8:12, 36-38; 9:18; 10:47; Rom. 6:1-4; 1 Cor. 11:23-26)

About the Civil Government:

We believe that Civil government and its authority are ordained of God. While waiting for Christ’s appearing, we should pray for those in authority and submit to their decrees, when such is not contrary to the revealed will of our Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 13:1-7; 1 Tim. 2:1-4; Titus 3:1; 1 Pet. 2:13-21). We likewise believe in the complete separation of church and state (Mat. 22:17-21).

About Angels:

Angels were initially created holy, but now, there is also an unholy angelic kingdom because of Satan’s rebellion.  The holy angels serve and worship God and minister to God’s saints (Job 38:6-7; Psa. 148:2-5; Isa. 6:2-4; Heb. 1:14).

The unholy angelic kingdom comprises Satan and his demons. Satan is a created being, the author of sin, the tempter in the fall, the declared enemy of God and man, and the God of this age. He shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire. (Gen. 3:1-5; Job 1:6-7; Isa. 14:12-17; Ezek. 28:12-19; Mat. 4:2-11; 25:41; Eph. 2:2; Rev. 12:7-9; 20:7-10).

Satan and his demonic army are all subject to Jesus Christ, and believers can walk in victory over the assaults of the evil angels (Col. 1:16; Jude 6; Eph. 6:10-18; 1 John 4:4).

About Eternity:

We believe in the final resurrection of all men, just and unjust. We believe that those who commit their lives to Jesus Christ during this life will be raised to everlasting life, but those who are not committed to Jesus Christ in this life will be raised to everlasting condemnation. (Mat. 25:31-46; John 3:16; Rom. 6:23; 1 John 5:11-13; Rev. 20:15)
