Tuition and School Fees
Every GTS student is on a scholarship, funded by generous financial supporters and friends of the Seminary.
GBI students only meet their feeding, accommodation, and transport costs.
GTS students pay one-half of the total tuition fees.
Diploma students also pay 20,000= annually to Uganda National Council for Higher Education.
Policies and General Information
Student Attendance Policy:
GTS does not have a reporting day. Classes begin on the first day of each term. Each student is expected to attend each class meeting, be in class on time, and stay in class until the class is complete. Each time a student does not attend one class time, he is considered absent. Two times late to class is equivalent to one absence. If a student acquires more than two unexcused absences (or the equivalent) during a one-credit hour course, that student will not receive credit for the course. If a student acquires more than four unexcused absences (or the equivalent) during a two-credit hour course, that student will not receive credit for the course.
Terms and Class Hours:
Terms at the Jinja campus usually begin in April, July, October, and January. Each term meets for four weeks of classes. Classes meet 80 minutes each day. A one-credit-hour class meets each school day for ten school days or its equivalent. A two-credit-hour class meets each school day for twenty school days or its equivalent.
Chapel Attendance:
As chapel may be the most important time of the school day, all students are expected to be in each chapel service and be on time. Failure to do so may attract disciplinary action.
Communal Work:
Every student, day, or resident is expected to participate in the normal upkeep of the seminary property. A duty will be assigned to each student, and each student must adequately perform the work asked of him.
Student Health:
While GTS does its best to keep students healthy, students are expected to pay for all health expenses they might incur while at GTS, including clinics and drugs. GTS is not responsible for student health expenses.
Student Guild (Council):
The Student Guild (Council) comprises elected students who are available to serve the student population and be the liaison between the student body and GTS administration. They meet regularly with students and the administration. Elections for the following year Guild usually are held during the January term.
Assignments:
At the end of each term, students are given home assignments. This work is to be fully and correctly completed and returned to the teacher on the first day of the following term. If a student fails to do so, or if he returns the work late, he will receive a 20% deduction from his final grade for that class. The only exception would be if the student is facing a life-or-death situation on his way to school. If the student does not attend the first day of class, he must send his work ahead with another student, so it arrives on the first day.
Other assignments given during the term must also be completed on time to avoid losing marks. Students handing in assignments late will be penalized at the Lecturer’s discretion (suggested 5% per day). Failure to hand in assignments will receive an incomplete grade resulting in a retake unless prior permission is secured from the Lecturer.
Student Integrity and Academics:
Because GTS is a school for men of God, it is needful for the students of GTS to remain “blameless,” “of good behavior,” “not greedy,” and “having a good testimony” (1 Timothy 3:1-7).
Cheating:
Each student must do his own work. If a student is cheating on an exam, home assignment, or other assignments, he will be given 0% credit for that exam or assignment. If a student is found cheating for a second time, he will be dismissed from that school term, receiving no credit for any classwork that term. Permission to return for another term must be granted by the administration.
Student Conduct:
GTS students should always represent the best of behavior – on and off-campus. Even though each is only a sinner saved by God’s grace, as church leaders, each student should humbly conduct himself in the best of Biblical conduct. Any student who shows improper behavior – on or off-campus – may be dismissed as a GTS student by the administration. Anyone found guilty of theft of Library books, GTS properties, or student properties may be dismissed from GTS.
Proper Dress:
Proper dress is always expected while outside the dormitory. This includes being properly dressed well for chapel and class (with shoes) and modest clothing to and from the bathhouse.
Academic Performance and Scholarships:
A student will lose his scholarship if, within one year, the student:
- Fails three (3) courses; or
- Receives marks of 59% or below in ten (10) or more courses.
Retake:
A student who fails to score the pass mark of 50% is required to do an emergence exam of the same course. If he fails a second time, the student must retake the course or courses when next offered to obtain at least the pass mark.
Payment of Fees:
Because GTS knows there are seasons of “drought” and “harvest,” grace may be given to students paying their fees. However, a student will not be allowed to attend classes if his balance is above 150,000/=
No student will be eligible for graduation unless all his fees (including graduation fees) are paid in full at least 15 days before graduation.
Requirements for Graduation:
- Graduands must attend the required number of classes.
- Graduands must receive a minimum passing CGPA of 2.00 as per NCHE standards.
- Graduands must complete all requisite coursework.
- Graduands must meet all the financial obligations to GTS and the NCHE.
- Graduands must be cleared by all relevant departmental heads – the Librarian, the Property Manager, the Guild Council, Course lecturers, and the Bursar. All the clearances MUST be done at least 15 days before the scheduled date for graduation.
